Care & Repair - for your wallet
Repairing is better than replacing.
Find out how to take care of your wallet.
How can we help you?
The Cardprotector is made of anodised aluminium, plastic and stainless steel and is impervious to water. You can clean the Cardprotector with a soft cloth and soap and rinse it with warm water. However, the salt in seawater can affect the metals, so we recommend rinsing the Cardprotector with fresh water after contact with salt water. Make sure the mechanism is dry before using your wallet again.
In general, Secrid wallets need very little maintenance, and this also depends on the type of leather. Please visit our leather page for more information.
Your Cardprotector is designed to hold your cards securely. However, if the cards fall out, it might be due to worn-out felt pads at the top of the Cardprotector. This issue can be fixed within minutes at a Secrid Care & Repair point. Use the Care & Repair point locator below to find the nearest. If you can’t find a Care & Repair point near you, please fill out this repair form for an alternative solution.
Storing more cards or cards that are broader than a standard credit card may make them get stuck in the Cardprotector. To solve this possible complication, we designed a new lever mechanism for the Cardprotector – the Salamander – in 2016. This safety mechanism splits in half when extra force is applied, resulting in a higher internal force to push the cards out. To deactivate the safety mechanism, press the ejector lever firmly back into the Cardprotector until you hear a strong click. Now the Cardprotector should function properly again, and you can remove all cards. If you have an older wallet without the new safety mechanism, we recommend finding the nearest Care & Repair Point to replace it or contacting our Customer Service (info@secrid.com)
When the lever feels unusually loose, you may have triggered the Salamander mechanism. This safety mechanism we designed in 2016 allows you to eject your cards if they get stuck inside the Cardprotector. To deactivate it, press the ejector lever firmly back into the Cardprotector until you hear a strong click. Your Cardprotector should now work smoothly again. If this didn’t solve your issue, find a nearby Care & Repair point below.
The Salamander lever is named for its ability to split the arm that pushes the cards out. Just like a real salamander, the arm ’grows back’ once it has been pushed back into place. You can recognise the Salamander lever on the base of the Cardprotector – it has two small plastic arms to the right of the lever. You can recognise it because there is no seam in the middle of it. If the lever you’re holding does have a seam, your wallet isn't equipped with the new mechanism, and we advise you not to use extra force.

Tips and tricks
Roughen up the felt pads
The red felt pads inside your Cardprotector keep your cards in place. These felt pads may wear off after a few years of use, causing a looser grip on cards. You can temporarily fix this issue at home by gently rubbing the felt pads with a key to roughen them up again. The best long-term solution is to replace them at a Care & Repair point.
Register your wallet
Did you know that by registering your wallet, you can extend its two-year warranty by one year? Enter the unique code engraved inside the wallet here. With this registration, we can ensure the authenticity of your wallet and spot copycats.
Vintage leather
If you see color differences in your Vintage wallet, it’s all right. Our vintage leather has natural chromatic variations that make each wallet unique. However, if your Vintage wallet needs to be cleaned, gently wipe it down with a damp cloth.
Use 4 to 6 cards
Did you know that your wallet functions best with four to six cards? If you use credit cards with embossed numbers, leave one card out for easier use.
Fix a loose lever
Your button is hanging loose, and your cards aren't coming out properly? No worries! In 2016, we launched the Salamander lever, which can restore itself. Press the ejector lever firmly back into the Cardprotector until you hear a strong click. Your Cardprotector should now work smoothly again. Please note that if your wallet is older than 2016, this trick unfortunately does not apply.

Taking care of your wallet
Cardprotector care
The Cardprotector is made of anodised aluminium, plastic and stainless steel and is water repellent.
You can clean the Cardprotector with a soft cloth and soap and rinse it with warm water. However, the salt in seawater can affect the metals, so we recommend rinsing the Cardprotector with fresh water after contact with salt water. Make sure the mechanism is dry before using your wallet again.
Leather care
No regular maintenance needed. If your wallet gets dirty, the recommended way to clean it depends on the type of leather the wallet is made of.
Water repellent
Use a damp cloth. The leather is unlikely to absorb water or other materials. Do not use any polish.
Water absorbing
We recommend not cleaning them with water as it may alter the color of the leather. If your wallet gets wet, use a soft cloth to gently pat it dry.
